Inspiration: Priest’s budget-blowing decor

An update to my earlier post about the Alphonse Mucha Art Nouveau wallpaper, photographed in a locked room, has just come through from our French decorating correspondents. If you missed it, here is the story of the priest of Rennes Le Chateau, who started spending eye-popping amounts, the source of which remains a mystery to this day. My hypothesis was that he blew a lot of his stash on the amazing decor of the priest’s house. So here are a couple more shots.

Look at that floor! There’s west London folks specifying exactly that from their darling interior designers as we speak. Less so the wallpaper the priest put up in the room next door…

But he obviously knew a thing or two about decorating, so I predict this classic Laura Ashley-esque print being the very thing to plaster over walls (and ceilings, if you want to get really authentically French about it) for 2015. Trend! Tendance!

That chair is incredibly gorgeous! Such a well designed room! But the last wallpaper is (unfortunately) very similar to a duvet pattern from my childhood…

yes me too – very evocative. Not my thing but you never know… tastes change. We could be heading for a full-on 80s floral rivival. Let’s hope it’s slow in coming x
