Address book: Tactile, tribal, textured bathrooms

We love nothing more than ruminating over a trend here at ‘the House. So when super-chic bathroom supplier CP Hart asked us to explore a bathroom trend they identified as involving textured finishes, raw wood and tribal patterns on tiles, we didn’t need asking twice. They’ve appropriately named the trend Tactile Textures. We started by investigating it over on Pinterest (natch) before bringing our translation of it here to the blog. Lets start in a bathroom created by the highly respected designer Paola Navone, who is known for her sumptuous, rustic, contemporary ideas spanning the genres of ceramics, tiles, lighting and furniture design.

We love the mix of rough with smooth here – from the concrete walls with printed tiles to the upscale shower fittings and luxe lighting.

But if you like your tactile textures served up in a purely polished way, how about the next scheme?

Small hexagonal mosaics are surprisingly inexpensive yet the choice of black here coupled with the wrap-around effect makes for a finish that looks just totally luxurious. Brass finished taps and a matching pendant finish the scheme off  – and if you can afford it, an unusual mirror is a nice touch.

Now how about a scheme that’s all about having a beautiful natural wood backdrop…

…that’s cleverly mixed with marble and fine details. This room by Hansgrohe, from CP Hart, is on the face of it quite slick, but the materials are such that you want to run your finger along every surface – and that’s tactile, baby. Add non-bathroom furniture – a nice armchair, tons of personal items and picture frames – and you’ve got a scheme that’s multi-layered.

How are you feeling about the idea of pebble walls? Not good? Have a look at this before you decide.

Again it’s about the black, but in this case how it’s mixed with wood. OK, so it’s probably not something for a weekend of DIY, but here’s the trade site for CP Hart if you’re lucky enough to be using a designer or architect.

Lastly, make sure you take the trend all the way with accessories.

Bamboo ladders, wicker baskets and a dash of pattern = job done.

Hey I’m bang on trend then as I have builders in at the moment tiling one shower in Porcelanosa Ona Natural tiles. Looks gorgeous, like the patterns left on sand underwater. : )
The other shower is not so much patterned but beautifully tactile. It is tiled in Royal Mosa’s 10×30 matt glaze mouse grey tiles. The mattness (is that a word?) is gorgeous, it invites you to stroke it!

oh, mouse grey matt sounds lovely – very strokable. Thank god your scheme turns out to be on trend and you didn’t have to race in and yell ‘stop!’ at the builders. x

I love the patterned tiles on the floor. I’ve got painted floorboards and a Mexican rug in my bathroom; a lot cheaper and a bit more rough around the edges!

Thanks Joanne. I saw a bathroom in Elle Dec recently with floorboards painted to look like tiles very similar to this. Don’t thin my expertise is up to it, but it looked cool. x
