Charitable blanket brand and how to donate to refugees

Inigo Scout is a social enterprise that aims to bring blankets to kids in need by donating ten every time a single blanket is purchased. The idea evolved when the founders were in intensive care with their tiny premature twin babies – Inigo and Scout – who were too sick to be discharged. A batch of colourful blankets were donated by local knitters to the unit and the couple became aware of how they gave huge comfort to the many people in the ward.  They set up their own venture and now collaborate with contemporary artists to create a collection of blankets made by Johnsons of Elgin, which are really quite lovely.

Following on from Ros’ post about the Jungle, I was hoping to find ideas to recommend where you can shop-donate to refugees. There is Leisure Fayre, an offshoot of the charity Help Refugees, which is run by Lliana Bird, Dawn O’Porter, Josie Naughton and Heydon Prowse, from which you can buy practical necessities such as sleeping bags, outdoor clothing and shoes, tents and rucksacks (and, I naively don’t get this one – air guns). The charities that you might better recognise are listed in this piece on the G.

I’m in the process of getting my kids to do their own yard sale selling all their old lovely toys so we can use the proceeds to donate to one of the above. I realised it would be nice if they could actually do something themselves since they are – my eldest (7) mainly – quite passionate about what’s going on just now. I’ll report back on how that goes.
