Trend or travesty: Stoned?

Today at 8.30 in the morning, the new HAY concession opened on the fourth floor of Liberty. I made it by 9.30 and the shop was eerily quiet, it being before opening time. I felt like I was poking around a big grand house with only nice stuff in it. I imagined it to be my own big grand house with only nice stuff in it.

There was an interesting tiny jewellery pot in the HAY (or WfH) collection made, surprisingly, from sandstone. Afterwards, when I walked through the rest of the shop I had a little discreet stroke of this nice wall behind the Acne concession. It’s not stone, but it looks very Terrazo-like.

It’s been a slow news week so the obvious next step for me is to put forward the idea of stone as an interiors trend. Stone used in surprising ways. Stone surprise? Whatever, here’s some porcelain pieces from a collection called Unearthed by Sevak Argarian that look very similar to that wall. Again, they’re not actually made from stone. Stone-simulating? How do those trend forecasters ever name stuff.

Anyway, you in? Is it a trend?

Definitely a travesty not to use real stone!

Interestingly there does seem to be a lot of stone related trends around this year – did you see Remodelista’s post on ‘ugly marble’? It’s a round up of some really cool ideas for using boldly patterned marble to striking effect. Links below..

For the latest on natural stone trends, head to the Surface Design Show at the Business Design Centre, Islington. My family business, Amarestone, will be there tomorrow on the Stone Federation stand.

Thanks again for a great post!
