The T on those tiles

And for those of you not down with the lingo, that’s T as in Truth. Yes, here comes the reveal of how my tedious tile tension turned out…

Thanks to everyone who commented on the blog, telling me to follow my heart and not compromise, putting off the work a little longer if necessary. You were absolutely right. And I absolutely didn’t follow your advice. If you recall, I’d bought these tiles from Alhambra, and was still suffering from… not buyer’s remorse exactly… buyer’s confusion? After I had them safely boxed up and in the car I discovered, via another comment here, the beautiful hand-made tiles of Marianne Smink at Smink Things. I cannot tell you how helpful she was with my dilemma, letting me know exactly which tiles she had enough in stock of for me to create my 1m sq hearth.

But, in the end, as well as the extra expense and hassle, when I put the first lot of tiles down in the flat they looked great. Perhaps not as individualistic as I might have got with Smink, but fitting with the house and the colour scheme perfectly nevertheless. And, to be honest, I have some other big projects on at the moment, and I really just HAD to stop thinking about the flipping fire. Decision made, they are now grouted and going nowhere. I’m settling in to love them. Thanks for all your advice commenters. I promise to take it next time x

I think they look great. If I moved into a house with a hearth like that I’d be super happy. X
