Squawk! Birds might be more than everywhere, but I always have room for a bit more Charley Harper. From online craft shop Purl Soho, are these needlepoint canvases of all my very favourite bird pictures.

They’re a bit steep, if you ask me, at around 100 dollars without threads. But as it’d take me a year or so to complete one, I guess that works out as a lot of hours ‘enjoyment’ for your money.

Now I haven’t done any needlepoint since I was a child. As I recall I got bored of the thing and spent weeks knotting the bright wool into a wig instead. But I could get into the idea of one of these, whiling away the cold winter evenings to the benefit of my bare walls.

I love these, especially the first one which is so crisp with the use of more dramatic colours. It does make you want to have a go at it, but I suspect my efforts would not result in such perfect line!

Yes isn’t it beautiful that first one. I think needlepoint is one of the easier crafts to get right – just colouring in the lines, in effect. My grandma needlepointed a picture of her old house and rambling garden from a photograph, and it’s the most beautiful thing in existence.
