If you designed a bed with your husband…

…why on earth wouldn’t you design it to look like this? Husband-and-wife design duos are fascinating, and most definitely a thing, but I have to admit I’d never heard of Claude and Francois-Xavier Lalanne before seeing this picture on AnOther magazine’s Instagram today. This brilliant picture of their bird bed however left me with no alternative than to investigate immediately.

You can read more about their respective backgrounds here, and it turns out you probably will have seen their work, even if you don’t know their names. Somewhere between art, sculpture and design, their work incorporates animals and plant life into practical furniture. As well as creating the sculpture that graced the cover of Serge Gainsbourg’s album ‘Man with a head of cabbage’ (I don’t need to show you a pic, you can picture it) they invented the Rhinoceros desk…

…as well as lots of versions of a sheep chair (just as it sounds). Here they are just chilling and probably discussing what to cook for dinner in their pigeon chairs. Married bliss!

Of course the Lalanne!! There was a small but beautiful exhibition of their creations in the Musée des arts décoratifs in Paris a few years ago. Very inspiring. Love them!
