How’s this for a fabric sample?

And so I find myself here once again, winter in the living room. The sofa spot I’ve sat in all year has become the coldest place in the house and I still haven’t sorted out curtains. Here’s a picture so you can empathise.

Now imagine someone blowing cold air on your neck all night and you’re there. Brrrrrr. Could this fabric be the answer? I sent off for a sample to find out. Here’s what came in the post, pictured alongside 50p for an idea of scale.

Can you imagine this tiny specimen blown up to three windows worth of curtain? A reminder of the rest of the room and its many colours so you can see why I’ve been umming and ahhing. Feel free to cast your vote as to whether it works – I’m open to either colour. I might even make a decision based on the outcome.

Personally I prefer the blue for it’s overall warmer feel, plus the red may be a blur of pink by the time it’s viewed from a distance?
Alternatively just locate the sample [use tweezers to handle it] and tape it to the back of your neck when sitting on the sofa. Fiscally beneficial whilst saving any troublesome decision making. What’s not to like?

Yes well, you need to ask yourself how much you want to have all those spooky little Grayson Perry faces peering at you. I think I would wear a scalf for now and keep searching.

Yup, scary faces already starting to spook me and I think I need a more grown up solution. Back to the drawing board and thanks to both of you for your helpful neck warmer solutions. x

Well if you send off for more samples you could make some bunting for a mouse or maybe a beetle. I think you’re right to avoid. Sample size tells me they’re obviously not too fussed about your custom: if I had a fabric business, my samples would be sumptuous affairs.

I’m all about the polka dot http://www.naturalcurtaincompany.co.uk/pages/fabricBuilder.aspx#selected
or if I had the money, then Celia Birtwell http://www.celiabirtwell.com/products-page/fabric-wallpaper/fabric/mystic-daisy-slate-hurricane-grey-on-natural-linen/ not a fan of Grayson Perry and yes, whoever sent that snippet as a sample should be ashamed.

Thanks Claire. I have a strong aversion to polka dots, but the Celia Birtwell is really lovely. They’re not my curtains, they’re my co-blogger’s. My Friend what do you think?

Hmm, I love the Celia Birtwell, but also not too into polka dots. Thanks for the suggestion Claire.
