A question about induction hobs

Yeh, so I still live in London. BUT I have been hatching plans to at least have a temporary escape in the shape of a holiday house in the highlands. This has been bubbling over for a few years now and I don’t have much more to say about it at the moment – I’m sure that’ll change as it becomes more real. But I do have a question as I’m starting to plan its kitchen. Has anyone made the move to induction hob and do you like it?

I’ve always been a gas hob sort of girl, but as induction is presented as a more environmental choice I’m wondering if I need to modern-the-heck up. Close your ears Ros, this is the anti-pantry talk. Yes, the kitchen that is currently a scribble on paper, is going to be modern and not so gorgeously rustic as Ros’s though the intention is to make it lovely. Anyway, I’m all ears if you have experience of inductions. Do you like it? Do you hate it?

I have one and I love it! Boils water in seconds and really easy to control. If you can, go for one that you can wire into the mains (as opposed to one that has a plug on the end) as it has much more power. I have one with a plug and its performance is v good, but boost doesn’t work with more than one pan on. It’s a dream to clean, and all my pans were already magnetic by pure luck so didn’t have to by more! My mum also has one in a lovely rustic kitchen, looks great. Good luck x

We invested in a seriously expensive induction hob and I thought at the time my husband had lost his mind! I’ve always had gas before and never considered anything else until now. I absolutely love it, fast, responsive and so clean. We have a Rangemaster Elise and I can’t imagine going back to gas having had this hob installed for 6 months.

I have just bought the cheapest John Lewis induction hob, it was on offer and under £300. I must say, like the others, I’m, amazed at how good it is. It’s so easy to control and is very fast and all my pans were fine on it as well – wonderful.

Do it, you’ll never look back. My Aga has turned into a glorified clothes horse/bottom warmer since we got ours. Make sure you get one with a boost button. timer is handy too. Alongside a Quooker tap, it’s the thing everyone I interview about chooses as their number one buy!

The only thing that might make it difficult to use induction hob is regulation – so pay attention if there are at least several levels of heating power, but that’s pretty much standard in contemporary models.
I’ve 10 levels in my hob and it takes about 30s to make in my italian coffee pot while using level 5. Super-handy!

You will obviously be in love with induction cooktops…… They have some really amazing features such as speed, efficiency, power saving etc. But if your induction stove has several levels be careful while choosing temperature levels….. Except this, you will love all the benefits….
