Stitches in time

Just quickly, two tiny projects have been completed. They weren’t completed ‘just quickly’ mind you. First up, I do believe I have sewn myself the most beautiful cushion that ever has or will exist.

embroidery transfer cushion

It’s made from a square of linen I bought for a pound in a junk shop. It had a blue embroidery transfer ironed on to it. For those of you not into needlepoint, that’s like an iron-on tattoo that you then embroider over. Whoever started on this project ran out of steam after embroidering just one pink flower, leaving the whole thing in a state of artful deconstruction.

Isn’t it lovely? And totally unique in the world. The other project – if buying stuff off the internet can be called a project – is that I finally got off the fence on the iron bed debate, and bought one. Just as when anyone compliments me on my dress I compulsively blurt out that it was £5 in Primark, so I will tell you with an utter lack of sophistication that this baby was something like £136 from Argos.

It’s lovely. It went together very easily, is chunky and stable, and with enough lovingly made cushions to rest on, the bars at the back don’t hurt a bit. And when you lie down on it and look out the window, it’s the perfect height for seeing nothing but sea and sky.

You’ll do me out of a job but I love the the combination of the print and just part of it sewn. Lovely. If you need more cushions for the bed do come by this weekend as I am taking part in the Dulwich Open and you know you can never have enough cushions! And a bargain too!

Praise indeed! Thanks Charlene – if anyone knows a good cushion when they see one… x

As a girl, I was fascinated with my mother’s box of Jacobean transfers. They were as beautiful to me as the finished embroidery! Not at all surprised that you would see that this piece is perfect as it is. It’s like looking at a bouquet that’s eternally about to bloom. (Yes, I’m afraid I get a little carried away by things like this! )

Lovely cushion, set off perfectly by your Jackson Pollock inspired flooring. Like the bed too with the Turner view. x

That cushion was certainly a great find and I just love the comment Helene made about the Jackson Pollock inspired flooring.
