Ikea monkey
What do I have in common with Joey Essex? Yes, that, but also a love of monkeys. Do you remember Ikea monkey, the sartorially smart but bewildered looking chap who caused a stir in his car coat? His touching plight spawned a million internet memes, but did you know it has also become a subject for art?
I want this painting more than I can possibly express. Look at the wonderful colours. But then, while googling it, I also found this one, which I like just as much.
His face is so touching. Then there is this one, below, which is actually for sale. It’s by Lauren Kaelin, who actually deserves a post of her own. She paints internet memes. Her one of Hilary Clinton checking her blackberry is also brilliant.
I was discussing with the gent how much it would cost to buy all the Ikea monkey paintings I could find, and have them as a personal gallery. Seriously, if you ever see one for sale, shout me.
It would look something like this. A worthy thing to dedicate the rest of my life to achieving, I feel.
I love this. I especially like how the last one also looks a bit like that church fresco that someone “helpfully” restored too!

Can you tell me how much you charge for prints/originals of Ikea Homonkulus? Weirdly, a good friend of mine emailed recently to say he’s painting me an Ikea Monkey – I was so thrilled! – but he’s doing a tribute to one of the other versions, not yours. I could get a gallery going! x
