Broken cushion club

We started the Broken Crockery Support here, and very quickly branched out into fridges. So if it’s ok by you, can I quickly air my regret over an incident last night involving all my cushions, my two-year-old and some felt tip pens? It happened while I was making dinner, innocently – selflessly, even – in the other room.

Yastik cushion | Eleanor Pritchard blanket | Kirtsen Heckterman It looks very much like it started on the small couch and the pink velvet Kirsten Hecktermann cushion where only single green lines are visible. You can imagine that the texture of the velvet might have been a bit of a deterrent, so maybe that’s why things then rapidly spiralled out of control on the Yastik bolster. Which I bought in Istanbul, by the way. I know it’s stupid to love a cushion, but what a way to learn that fact.

After that, she regrouped and made it over to the other couch where this took place.

The one of the left has made it almost unscathed. But the pale one is a shambles.

If anyone has any tips on the removal of felt tip pen from high quality cushionage, then please make them known. I haven’t even begun to google it yet such is the scale of my huff. Plus, I just know that path will end up at Mumsnet.

try spraying with hairspray and then wiping with a dry cloth.

Please let us know if the hairspray trick works. I’m fascinated. Good luck. Lovely cushions.

Ha! I told My Friend about me accidentally drawing on the cushions in the chapel, and you snapping the felt tip in front of my eyes! If only I’d known to suggest the hairspray trick then x

I think this is yet another example of false memory syndrome on your part!

Was that spraying the toddler or the fabric?
I think it could sting their eyes.
I’m thinking of designing a felt tip scribbly style print fabric for people at your stage of toddler/house/protection then the little pests would just be adding to it in a perfectly landscaped way……or you could just embrace the spirit of jazz!

Let us know as soon as you’ve introduced that collection Madeleine! Ironically, she was using the felt tips that came with a scribble-on-it fabric pencil case from Paperchase (worth checking out if you do such a cushion).

Oh well she’s completely innocent then if one minute she’s being encouraged to scribble on fabric and the next she’s not – how confusing. This is a bit like the cat scratchy chair story isn’t it – you must get a shed and hide all the nice things in it.

It might come to that. The pens though are her big brothers! But fair point all the same. It’s a confusing business being a young child. And a cat. And a house proud grown up who loves cats and young children. sigh.

    Ah.
    A tragedy indeed…
…please accept my condolences (had to check the spelling of that).
A wise lady told me once that every mark is a memory…
…not sure that’s a good thing if the memory is guttedness at beautiful things being scribbled on.
    xx

I’m going to take that phrase (every mark is a memory) with me wherever my one year old goes in our house, from now on. I do like the fact that multiple colours were dedicated to the bolster. It obviously deserved something a bit more special than the others. I hope you found a colour removal solution.

I know! I am coming to terms with it though. Seems like a natural time to take the old collection in a new direction…
