Where we’re going, we don’t need roads

We shouldn’t ignore Hadley Freeman’s important work in the field of feminism. But did you know she’s also started 80s film club blog?! Good news if, like me, you think her writing style is great and you love 80s films.*

So far she’s covered the following titles (among others), which as a test I will not caption.
Ghostbusters | 80s film club

Say Anything | 80s film club | Hadley Freeman blog

Heathers | 80s film club | Hadley Freeman blog

Back-to-the-future | 80s film club | Hadley Freeman blog Did you get them all? I wanted to use more obscure photos, but I can’t resist a ghetto blaster.

In her words-only blog, Hadley is properly, massively nerdy on her subject, highlighting the modern work of obscure cast members as well as dissecting more pressing viewer concerns: Eg the unnecessary romantic sub plot in Big wherein 30-something Susan doesn’t lose her mind when she finds out she’s been having sex with a 13-year-old.

I’m hoping she’s going to discuss The Money Pit and other lesser known classics that I taped off the telly and watched on a loop.

*At school if people asked what music I liked, I used to say ‘soundtracks’ – that’s how cool I was deep my love is.

Secrets of a salvage yard

News, sad news, just sent by our stringer in the West Country, of the demise of a local institution. Shiver Me Timbers salvage yard. All the above images are from John Stumbles. And they certainly capture something of the combative vibe you could find there. But what they don’t include is the owner himself. The […]

We ♥ our building

A great picture of the original Grosvenor cinema in my old stomping ground in Glasgow. There’s still a cinema on this site, but it’s a ghost of its former self. Nearby was The Grosvenor Cafe, an old Italian greasy spoon where you could get a cup of tea with a digestive biscuit. Belle & Sebastian […]
