Walking LDF while My Friend is on an island

Just to recap, Ros is on a sort of self-styled writer’s retreat on a stunning hideaway island in Scotland for a month and has been swimming with otters – I went to the same place during the summer on her recommendation and use the word ‘stunning’ with intensity. I am in London doing London Design Festival. I’m not bitter, but it is I who has walked 500 miles. Good grief LDF is enormous, though also a lot of fun and very stimulating.

You can read my more professional insights about things seen over on The Chromologist (here and here so far – Spoiler alert, I call a TV sexy), but meanwhile I thought you’d like to hear about this new online shop that I discovered on wednesday. It’s so new, there’s nothing much on the site yet, but this is what Collection Eclectik looked like at Design Junction – fyi that show is open as a shopping event until sunday.

Right away I wanted that piece of art by Dominic Beattie (the chair is also by him), which was sadly out of my price bracket though that didn’t stop me from mentally hanging it on various walls in the house. If you go and buy it, don’t tell me about it. I’m still sad.

The shop is run by two, it has to be said pretty glamorous ladies – Roshanak and Ekin, both of whom were lovely and enthusiastic about their products. They collect from all over the place – some antique pieces, some commissioned products and some vintage pieces that they upcycle for a more contemporary finish. For instance a Persian rug that they shaved in places before hand stitching it again.”There is a blend between art and design, the idea was to bring it all together,” Roshanak told me.

The duo sees the business as a ‘Nomad Concept Store’ that pops up in different locations around the world, “sometimes at big events like this one in LA, London, New York and sometimes set up by ourselves,” Roshanak said. She is originally from Iran, although brought up mainly in Paris and now lives between New York and London – she currently works in finance by day to fund this, her passion. Ekin is from Turkey and has a background as an interior designer of boats – they met eight years ago on an island off Sicily where bohemians and artists go on holiday. How glam.

These bowls are handmade in various materials by an artisanal company in Italy – the charcoal one was gorgeous.
