Video: Save the Jubilee Pool

There’s six weeks of lovely weather coming! Time to get in that sea. Sadly though, in my home town, the winter storms’ effects are still being felt. The gorgeous 1930s lido that sticks out into the sea got a heavy battering, and the already vulnerable structure has suffered.

There is a campaign to persuade Cornwall County Council to match funding for a long-term repair program, promoted with this charming video.

If you’ve ever been to Penzance you’ll know what an important feature of the town – which oddly for Cornwall doesn’t have a particularly nice beach of its own – the pool is. If you’ve lived in Penzance you’ll know the pleasure of a bracing early morning swim looking out to sea, or the delight of sneaking over the wall on a hot night (shh!). Either way, here is the petition. Protect the pool!

Love this post, love the pool and love the little mermaid swimming underwater at the end.

Just signed. My home town is Plymouth and that similar lido survived the storms I believe. It was such a magical place as a kid, we used to sneak in over the sea wall and hang out there all day in the days where your parents didn’t know where you were and didn’t worry.

Oh wonderful. Thanks for signing! Yes I lived in a village outside Penzance as a kid and going to the lido seemed the last word in metropolitan sophistication x
