Trend or travesty?

I’m afraid I already know what side of the parrot perch I’m sitting on with this one and it’s… Trend!

Lladro Parrot Party It’s from a new range called Parrot Party, by kitsch shifters Lladro, they of the porcelain ballerinas and horses. I can’t help but find it rather lovely. I just went for a look on the Lladro website though and whaoo, you’ve got to get over there. It’s wildly, outrageously odd. For one thing, a while ago they employed Jaime Hayon to create a fantasy range. The Family Portrait below is the least weird piece in it.

But take a look at their supposedly uncool ranges too – elegantly sculpted doctor for your mantlepiece? Or a pair of Mormon missionaries stood next to a shared briefcase? It’s so weird it seems impossible to imagine it’s not some kind of high-concept joke. More Jeff Koons than Jeff Koons. Lladro is officially my new favourite porcelain figurine house. Squawk!
