Trend: Deep Blue

Nerds and readers of a certain age will of course assume that I’m talking about the IMB computer that made history by beating Garry Kasparov at chess.

But no, it’s another Deep Blue that’s yanking my chain. In a good way…

Farrow & Ball Stiffkey Blue

I didn’t think dark colours were my kind of thing, but dark dark blues are cropping up everywhere, and each new version I see is changing my mind a little bit more. Above is the new Stiffkey Blue by Farrow & Ball. Below is a room set from this morning’s M&S press show.

Marks & Spencer Spring Summer 14

The above shot looks quite modern, but I think I like for the most part that it looks so, ya’know, historic.

Needless to say I’ll be starting a board for it on Pinterest, just so I can obssess over the exact right shade for, ooo… longer than it takes to beat a super-computer, certainly.

I’m definitely seeing a lot more of these dark colours around. I’ve always been more of a white a light fan, but like you say, these rooms do hold an appeal – they are quite romantic and cosy. I guess I could still lean towards lighter wall decor but introduce darker tones in the form of sumptuous upholstered pieces.
