Miami baby and The Webster

Webster Miami | My Friend's House

What a place Miami is. I’ll be chucking a load of highlight pictures at you in a few days time – buildings mainly – but for now, while I sift out the most kitsch and colourful, here’s a chichi shop I visited on Collins Avenue in South Beach. It’s called The Webster and comes from those dude’s behind cult French shop Colette. My French friend recommended it to me as it happens, I think for the clothes really, but I wanted to move into the place. Not, it must be said, to be closer to the slightly frosty shop girls who just weren’t putting their all into ‘have a nice day.’ No, for the velvet sofas, deep brown walls (brown!), terrazzo flooring, brass heron and super-cool printed wall panels.

In case you are wondering, I have spent some time on Ebay looking for brass Heron. That’s the extent of my own photos, taken shortly before my phone froze on video mode. I found some more elsewhere…

…and am now searching for those Pelicans.* Don’t you love the floor? There’s another branch of the shop in Bal Harbour, which appears to have the same vibe and makes me want to upholster my chairs in soft green velvet.

So there you have it. I want to live in a shop with brown walls near the beach. What’s new with you?

*Update those birds are toucans, my bad bird knowledge was spotted by the editor at large.

I’m new here and loving your blog too. That shop is a lovely space, the green chairs (sigh) are gorgeous. Just a thought on the metallic birds. You could get a heron scarer (a plastic heron people put near their ponds to scare off real herons from eating the fish) and get busy with some spray paint.

Am laughing now, because I had a notion, what if they’re not the diy type? So I checked out more info on you (two) and your blog. So, I hope I haven’t offended anyone in the writing of this post. If you find my suggestion useful, great, if you find it funny then absolutely double great. Have a lovely day!

Thanks for joining us. Your instinct to laugh in the face of us doing anything crafty was spot on, but it’s a good idea for someone who is handy! Thanks for commenting and do come back.

Looking forward to seeing more Miami pics – I saw a great documentary recently about Barbara Hulanicki of Biba fame (it was called something like Beyond Biba) – I hadn’t realised that she was still designing. She works on the interiors of those lovely, faded Deco buildings in Miami. It’s a really good film.

Oh great, thanks I’ll definitely look that up. I knew she still designed, but hadn’t realised she works in Miami too.
