Help! How much to install a fire?

Reader help required again. This is what I want…

Open fire in living room

…but what I’ve got is a thermal hat and bedsocks. And it’s only just October. So I’m ringing around to get quotes for having a wood burning stove installed. I’ve had the chimney cleaned specially, in an arcane, semi-religious ceremony involving plumes of smoke rising from the roof. I’m good to go. But I’m baffled. My Friend says her’s cost £900 to line the chimney and install the stove. But I’m getting quoted twice that. What gives? Anyone had it done and can tell me what they think is the right price? Hi, have you tried Casa on Bellenden Road? Ask for Matt and he’ll give a fair quote. The number is 020 7732 3911 He also does great reconditioned cast iron radiators which we have bought from him and they are gorgeous and chuck out great heat! : )

Great news about your plan to get a stove. Our wood burner was installed in April, total cost £2684 including 5kw stove, liner, chimney cowl, granite hearth, scaffolding and fitting. Sounds worth giving Matt a call as suggested in previous comment.

Hi, I think you definitely need to get other quotes!!
I’m up North – we paid £700.00 for our stove to be installed and the chimney lined.
Few years ago – so £900.00 is probably about right.
Love reading you by the way! XX

We had a quote last year for between £3500 and £4000 for a modern wood burner, chimney and installation. Needless to say we did not get it. Must say we’ve been thinking about it again this year. Good Luck with finding a better quote.

I’d also recommend matt from casa. he fitted a reclaimed fireplace, slate hearth, and wooden fire surround in my old flat and did an amazing job. i can’t remember exactly what it cost, maybe around 2000 for everything but there was a lot of tinkering about with the existing chimney breast. good luck!x

Thanks Emma. Matt from Casa is in fact doing the job for me. And he’ll be very pleased to hear that he’s had another recommendation from one of our readers. Thanks so much x
