Abel on Whistles – and more of his chairs

Bit like a Grand Designs Revisited, today we’re sneaking a peek back into the world of Abel Sloane 1934 – the fabulous chair guy (and more) who we covered a while ago here. Abel is on The Whistles blog showing off his studio and answering some questions about his work and inspirations. Making Penge look quite cool in the process too – I’m assuming he’s still in Penge.

Apparently Abel once bought 23 Aalto chairs for £1 each – can you believe that?  He also puts mine and Ros’s market-hunting habits to shame – he got up at half 3 in the morning lately to drive down to Reading for a market. When we hit Kempton for a day I think we managed to leave at 7am and only after a bucket full of coffee and some silent time in the car.

FYI Abel still does a fine line in chairs if you’re still looking for gifts for Christmas…
